"JESUS I KNOW, AND PAUL I KNOW…
BUT WHO ARE YOU?"
ACTS 19:15 NIV
(1) We can only use the
name of Jesus effectively when we acknowledge Him as Lord. Saul of Tarsus
knew about Jesus, then he met Him face-to-face on the Damascus Road and
his life was transformed. And the same
will happen when we make Jesus Lord of our life. If we haven’t done that, we ought to do it
now! Talk about a radical makeover! O’ Hallelujah!
(2)
We can only use the name of Jesus effectively when we have
an intimate relationship with Him. David wrote, "One
thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in
the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the
Lord, and to inquire in his temple" (Ps 27:4). Underscore the words: desire, seek,
dwell, behold, and inquire. Paul uses marriage to illustrate our
relationship with Christ (see Eph 5:25-32).
The moment we say “I do," we have
the right to use His name.
(3)
But it’s qualified by: "Forsaking all others keep thee only unto Him so long as you both shall
live." We can only use the name
of Jesus effectively when we’re convinced of its power! Don’t use His name
if you don’t believe He’s able (and willing) to do what He says. And we can only do that when we stand on His Word and practice its principles in
our affairs. When we live this way we’re
like a law enforcement officer flashing his credentials. Each time we use the name of Jesus you’re
backed up by the force and authority of God’s kingdom!
DON’T TRY THIS ON YOUR OWN!
