FOURTH PRINCIPLE OF PRAYER
As In Heaven, So on Earth - (Matthew 6:10)
This prayer principle is of such immense importance that it might itself
be considered a complete, brief statement of how prayer works. It declares that the will of God is
accomplished in the material realm as in the spiritual or in the visible realm
as in the invisible.
Usually understood as a petition, these words are taken to mean we are taught to
pray for the achievement of God’s will in human affairs throughout the
world. There is no need to pray that
God’s will be done in heaven, for there God’s will is already perfectly
accomplished. But when we pray that the
rule of heaven was established upon Earth, we are not only asserting the
conviction that this present world can and ought to be transformed by heaven’s
power, but we are also clearing the way for such to occur.

ow is the grace of God received, and how is the world thus to be
transformed? The secret is in Jesus’
words: “In earth, as it is in heaven,” He is saying, “The power that
creates the wonder of heaven’s peace and blessing is waiting now to flow
earthward. We don’t create it, but we
invite it as God-appointed representatives assigned by grace to seek God’s
kingdom here.
Prayer is the process by which we take the spiritual values out of
heaven and bring them down to Earth: by which we enable the unseen to take
shape in the visible world.
