Leviticus 18:1-30 King James Version (KJV)
18 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God.3 After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.
Keys to Moral Purity
Moral impurity is extremely destructive to spiritual life and personal relationships. Sexual unfaithfulness is often an analogy for idolatry and unfaithfulness in the OT. Impurity compromises the integrity of our minds, hearts, and bodies. God tell us to flee from it because of its evil power.Know what God’s Word says about sexual conduct. Flee from and avoid every form of sexual and moral uncleanness.
KINGDOM DYNAMICS
18:3 After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: The redemption of the people from the land of Egypt involved not only bringing them out (see v.1), but also the removal of Egypt and its idolatrous and pagan practices from the hearts of the people. The people became a nation dedicated to God and His holiness. God’s deliverance acquired for Him a people for His very own, presenting a challenge to each person of the community. They have now become responsible to God their Redeemer who saved them from slavery. The people must determine to live holy. Godlike lives according to the covenant relationship (see Ex. 20:2 as the preamble for the Ten Commandments). Of specific concern this chapter are proper sexual relations.
18:6 To uncover their nakedness means to have sexual intercourse.
18:22 Lie with mankind: All homosexual relationships were strictly forbidden (see 20:13).
