THE SECOND HEAVEN
The Celestial Outer Space
(The Sun, Moon, And Stars)
Deuteronomy
17:3; Jeremiah 8:2; Matthew 24:29
CELESTIAL - se-les'-chal (epouranios, "above the sky,"
"heavenly")
The second heaven is the starry heavens, where the
atmosphere ends. It is the heavens in which the sun, moon, and stars are secure
in orbit. The stars are endless and the distance between all of them is astounding.
The Bible says in Psalm 19:1 "The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament shows His handiwork."
Note:
·
Immediately after the tribulation of those days the
sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall
from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken (Matthew 24:29).
Stars are
said to be in heaven
·
And take heed, lest you lift up your eyes to heaven,
and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you
feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord your God has given
to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage (Deuteronomy 4:19).
Heaven of
Heavens
Scripture
also speaks of heavenly spheres beyond that which is visible from the earth. It
is called the heaven of heavens.
The
firmament, or expanse, raqiya` “In which the sun, moon, stars, and
constellations are fixed. Genesis 1:17: And God placed them in the
Firmament of heaven. Isaiah 40:22: He stretcheth out the heavens as a
CURTAIN, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.”
Psalm
19:4,6 - “In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun... It rises at one
end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other;...”
Jeremiah 8:2 -
They will be exposed to the sun and the moon and all the stars of the heavens
which they have loved and served....” …to be cont’d
