MIRACLES OF FAITH (6)

Miracle of the Shunammite’s Son

2 Kings 6: 1:7
King James Version (NIV)

Resurrection From the Dead

Other than Jesus, Elisha performed more recorded miracles than anyone in the Bible. Both Elisha and the Shunammite woman had seen their faith successfully tested; and they were rewarded with the desires of their hearts and corresponding increase in their faith.

The Shunammite was a well-to-do lady who shows us that she  _

a.)did not trust in the uncertainty of riches,
b.) she was not proud and arrogant over her wealth,
c.) she used her wealth for others in need.
d.) She believed in the value of God’s Word and supported
                          the ministry of the prophet.

This was a testimony to her faith and values as products of her faith.

2 Kings 4:38-6:7
King James Version (KJV)

6 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

2 Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

4:8,9 In his travels Elisha frequently passed through Shunem, which was located near Jezeel. In contrast to Obadiah’s poor widow (vv.1-7), this Shunammite was a great woman (implying she was very affluent), and she had a husband.

4:10-17 As God had provided children for Sarah, Rachel, and Hannah, so He miraculously enabled this hospitable woman and her husband to have a son.

4: 18, 19 It is believed that the Shunammite’s son died from inflammation of the brain produced by a sunstroke.

4:24-37 The actions of both Elisha and the Shunammite woman in this incident provide illustrations of the importance of faith and persistence.
