The Holy Spirit and The End Times
The Holy
Spirit and The End Times
The apostle Paul developed the concepts of "firstfruits"
and "pledge" with respect to the Holy Spirit. He applies the concept of "firstfruits"
once to the Holy Spirit and twice to Christ (Rom. 8:23; 1 Cor. 15:20-23).
Paul uses the idea of "pledge" (Greek arrabon) three times in
referring to the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 1:22; 5:5; Eph. 1:14).
The Spirit’s "last
times" character is that He is the guarantor of a yet-to-be
consummation. All in all, true
Spirit-filled living is shown to be characterized by true eschatological
conviction. The Spirit within testifies
of and draws us to the Savior who is coming soon! This "nearness" of Jesus’
return is revealed in the Scriptures; it is a doctrine that is rooted in the
Word, not in mere human sentiment. The
"imminence" of Christ’s coming refers to the biblically affirmed
fact: Jesus may come today!
