Religious Apostasy
In the Olivet discourse about "the close of the Age" (Matt.
24; Mark 13; Luke 21). Jesus says at one point, "Because iniquity
shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold" (compare Matt. 24:12
and 2 Thess. 2:3). Then the Savior
adds, Matt. 24:13). A
great falling away of the church from its "first love" is the
core of apostasy says Jesus about the
church at Ephesus as He speaks to John the Revelator on the Island of Patmos (Rev.
2:3-5). As wickedness increases, the New Testament prophesies a diminishing
of love as the church is overwhelmed by cultures of godlessness. This is another one of the "End of
the Age" signs. "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be
saved" (
